Our Policy Priorities

Since the Virginia Asian American and Pacific Islander Caucus (VAAPIC) launched in March 26, 2021, we have held listening sessions with diverse AAPI grassroots leaders, participated in roundtables hosted by Governor Ralph Northam, and met individually with community leaders.

Our legislative agenda for 2022 addresses key priorities raised by the community during these conversations: expand language access, address the rise in hate and violence against AAPI Virginians, grow small businesses, support refugees, and improve education and healthcare through increased funding.

2022 Legislative Agenda

At the beginning of the 2022 General Assembly session, the Virginia Asian American & Pacific Islander Caucus released its legislative policy agenda that included a dozen bills and several budget items.

The halfway point in the legislative session means that every bill introduced in the House of Delegates or in the State Senate had to "crossover" to the other chamber by this deadline.

VAAPIC is pleased to report that six bills on its agenda successfully passed the chamber of origin and was considered in the other body.
